5 FU Chemotherapy

The Flurouracil Chemotherapy is usually referred as 5FU Chemotherapy and it is the method of treatment which is provided to patients who are suffering from a specific kind of cancer. The patients of oesophagus, breast cancer and stomach are cured by this specific kind of chemotherapy. There are some ill effects which are related to this therapy. Different types of individual react differently to this therapy. Some face the problem of sore mouth and ulcers after this. Some ulcers may occur in mouth during the continuance of treatment.

The patients are usually advised to take in the tiny cubs of ice so that they may have some relief after treatment. The patients who are going through 5FU chemotherapy are usually advised to take water and fluids. They are also recommended to wash their teeth by using a toothbrush of soft bristles. The patient may not be able to enjoy the proper taste of food due to occurrence of mouth ulcers. Despite of doctor recommendation of specific kind of mouth washes, the infection of mouth may take place.

The patient may also be get affected by diarrhea while going through 5FU chemotherapy. This side effect can be controlled very easily but one should inform the doctor immediately. Some people may also face the problem of defection in the vision. The doctor prescribes eye drops to cure the patient if such kind of problems takes place. Along with these two problems, there may be observed a change in the color of patient’s skin. The change in the color of skin takes place due to pigmentation. All the ill effects of 5FU chemotherapy are temporary and can be controlled easily after the completion of treatment.

The 5FU chemotherapy is performed on a patient by way of injection. The therapy is injected in the body of the patient through his or her veins. The medicines can also be inserted in the body of patient through drip. The medicine is injected right under the layer of skin of the collarbone of the patient. A cream is used for inserting the injection below the surface of skin which brings changes in the color of skin of patient. In this way, we conclude that different people face different kinds of ill effects and the intensity of side effects is usually also remains different.

The patients may also face the problem of hair loss while going through 5FU Chemotherapy but it does not result in total hair loss. The hair line generally grows thin after the 5FU chemotherapy. The alteration in the hairs is usually observed after three or four weeks of the beginning of the cure. The changes can also be noticed in the nails. The nails get very fragile. The skin gets sensitive towards sunlight and sun burns starts occurring very easily.

Before going out in the sun, the patients should dress up properly and use sun screen lotion. The rashes may also erupt after 5-FU chemotherapy. The soles and palms also get sore during the treatment. The side affects take place only if the treatment continues for extended time.
